Commentary: 2022 Shaping to Be a Rough Year for Sanford Bishop and Georgia Democrats

by Garrison Douglas

It’s only January and 2022 is already giving us an idea as to what can be expected in this year’s midterms.

Democrats were delivered a body blow in last year’s elections. They suffered a historic loss in Virginia’s gubernatorial race and failed to secure victories against Republican-backed mayoral candidates in Georgia’s suburbs.

These electoral losses come amongst rapidly dropping approval numbers for Joe Biden and piling domestic crises from rising gas prices to crime to supply chain shortages wreaking havoc on Georgians.

CASE

Throw in Georgia Republicans lining up challenges to take down Sanford Bishop and Democrats are starting 2022 off in a rocky spot.

Despite his hollow attempt to appear as a moderate,  Sanford Bishop has been a loyal foot soldier for Joe Biden and Democrats’ radical economic agenda, voting with Nancy Pelosi 100% of the time.

Bishop has safely held his congressional seat since 1993, yet Democrats’ failure to tackle the multitude of crises hitting Georgians, Sanford Bishops’ radical support for taxpayer funded abortions and a new map have all placed a GOP victory in the district within reach.

The Republican National Committee (RNC), who has maintained a grassroots presence in Georgia since 2016, is committed to continuing to reach out to voters for victories in the 2022 midterms.

Last year’s critical municipal elections were a prime opportunity for the RNC to test its permanent, data-driven ground game. After engaging nearly 6,000 volunteers and making contact with over 80,000 voters, it’s safe to say the RNC isn’t leaving any stone unturned.

The RNC’s efforts paid massive dividends as Republicans dominated municipal races in Georgia’s suburbs, including a mayoral race against Stacey Abrams’ hand-picked candidate in Sandy Springs.

However, Republicans aren’t relying just on door knocking and making phone calls in their ground game.

Recently, the Republican National Committee hired election integrity state directors in North Carolina, Georgia, and Maine. These directors are tasked with recruiting and training election integrity volunteers to poll-watch, collaborating with state parties and local stakeholders, and promoting best practices for fair, secure elections.

The RNC’s new election integrity operation is designed to counteract Democrat overreach in Georgia and nationwide.

Recent polling shows two things are evident: Republicans have real momentum and the Democrats like Sanford Bishop have an extremely tough year ahead of them.

“Georgians are fed up with Joe Biden and Georgia Democrats like Sanford Bishop. With the midterm elections less than a year away, voters and the RNC are standing ready to give Democrats the retirement party they deserve.” – RNC Spokesperson Garrison Douglas
