Commentary: Joe Biden’s Border Crisis Endangers Georgians

by David Martinez

In 2021, 10,500 pounds of fentanyl was seized at the U.S. southern border. A year later, White County, Georgia witnessed the largest fentanyl seizure ever in the county’s history

Dangerous and deadly drugs are flowing across the southern border and making their way into the Peach State. But rather than secure the border, Joe Biden and his administration stick their heads in the sand.

Just recently, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden’s Border Czar,  said she thinks the southern border is “secure.” Such a statement struck as bizarre to many Georgians because it wasn’t rooted in reality.

Recent reporting revealed that during this fiscal year alone, over 900,000 people who illegally crossed the border have escaped into the country. The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) sounded the alarm and said that Mexican cartels are “killing Americans with fentanyl at catastrophic and record rates.”

Sadly, because Joe Biden and Democrats have decided to ignore the chaos at the border, Georgians are facing a growing drug-fueled crisis. The Georgia Department of Public Health reported in a new study that the number of young people who died as a result of “fentanyl-laced drug overdoses spiked last year by 800%” in comparison to the year prior to the pandemic.

Now, candy-like rainbow fentanyl, which was created by drug pushers and cartels deliberately to “drive addiction amongst kids and young adults,” was found in the metro-Atlanta area.

I’m a former Gwinnett County police officer, but above that I’m a husband and a father.

As I watch this crisis unfold in our state, I grow not only more concerned for my children’s safety, but also that of my neighbors and fellow community members. However, I also grow more astonished each day that Raphael Warnock remains quiet.

The death toll of Georgia’s children continues to rise at the hands of this dangerous drug, but Warnock appears unfazed. He instead focuses on ending cash bail, which gives drug pushers more opportunities to traffic fentanyl into our communities. Instead of supporting policies that would secure our border and fight back against the drug cartels, he campaigns with defund the police candidates like Stacey Abrams

Unfortunately, it is not at all surprising that Warnock remains unfazed by the fentanyl crisis. Working to tackle this crisis would require him to push back against Joe Biden, who he votes with over 96% of time, and support policies Biden vehemently opposes.

With Halloween quickly approaching, the risk of danger the fentanyl crisis poses to Georgia’s children is only increasing

It is crucial that Raphael Warnock abandon his mission to protect Joe Biden and start protecting Georgians.
