Georgia 6th Congressional District Republican Nominee Rich McCormick challenged Bidenomics and President Biden’s definition of the word ‘recession’ in a statement on Monday.
“‘Two quarters of declining GDP doesn’t mean we are in a recession’ is the new ‘Inflation is transitory.’ The Biden Administration should try to spend as much time trying to fix the economy as they do making excuses for it,” McCormick tweeted.
In another response to Biden, the GA-06 GOP nominee touted the Peach State’s oil prices relative to the rest of the nation.
“Too long, didn’t read [Biden’s post]. If you live in a Republican-led state, you are paying less than $4 per gallon for gas,” McCormick said.
Valued at $3.867 per gallon on Tuesday, prices for gasoline continue to drop in the Peach State. Only South Carolina and the Lone Star State, whose residents pay the lowest of any American at $3.829, have cheaper prices. However, prices for gas have increased by nearly a dollar per gallon in Georgia over the past year.
McCormick also critiqued Biden’s recent meeting with Saudi Arabian Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman (MBS).
“Joe Biden is so desperate for someone to bail him out of the gas crisis he created, that he likely contracted COVID in Saudi Arabia while begging for oil,” he said.
In an attempt to influence public perception of the economy, the Biden administration posted a tweet on Monday that compared the current cost of gas to its recent peak.
“At current prices, the average driver will spend $35 less per month for one person than they would if gas prices stayed at their peak,” Biden said.
A former Marine pilot, McCormick tried to make light of the post by the incumbent executive leader.
“This is the presidential equivalent to ‘the beatings will continue until morale improves,'” the 6th Congressional District candidate said.
“Mr. President, gas prices are coming down because oil traders believe your economic incompetence will cause a recession, if it hasn’t already. This isn’t an accomplishment, it’s an acknowledgement of your failures,” McCormick said in a Twitter post.
For Georgians, the average cost of a month’s worth of groceries is $380.92 – slightly higher than the national average of $370.81 per month per person. Nonetheless, the price of flour has risen nearly 40 percent over the the past year while eggs have increased in price by nearly 65 percent. Americans in general are paying 10.4 percent more for groceries compared to a year ago.
The cost of renting a one-bedroom apartment in Georgia has risen by nearly $100 per month over the past 12 months, and in the United States rent has increased 4.7 percent for city renters.
“Inflation is an insidious tax devaluing your hard-earned dollars. It will cause a recession if it hasn’t already. We need fiscal discipline in Washington, now,” McCormick tweeted.
