Donald Trump Wants Herschel Walker to Pursue U.S. Senate Seat from Georgia

Former U.S. President Donald Trump this week suggested that Georgia native and Heisman Trophy winner Hershel Walker represent Georgia in the U.S. Senate.

“Wouldn’t it be fantastic if the legendary Herschel Walker ran for the United States Senate in Georgia?” Trump asked in a statement this week.

“He would be unstoppable, just like he was when he played for the Georgia Bulldogs, and in the NFL. He is also a GREAT person. Run Herschel, run!”

Walker has thus far not used his Twitter feed to address Trump’s endorsement.

CASE

The former NFL player, however, often uses social media to express right-of-center beliefs. Last month, for example, Walker tweeted that elected officials best serve their time “upholding the Constitution and finding solutions to hold companies and our government accountable.”

Walker also said last month that “elected officials are sworn to office to protect the Constitution, foreign and domestic. Anyone not honoring their oath should be impeached.”

In December, Walker endorsed Republicans David Perdue and Kelley Loeffler to retain their U.S. Senate seats out of Georgia.

Walker also endorsed Trump’s reelection campaign last year.

“People, you better wake up and know what is going on around you!!” Walker tweeted.

“It’s time for all to be awakened and stand up for America and let people know Communism is not welcome in our country!”

According to Heisman.com,  Walker was born in Wrightsville and attended Johnson County High, where he played football, basketball and competed in track.

“In his senior year of 1979, he rushed for 3,167 yards, helping the Trojans to win their first state championship. The valedictorian of his class, he was awarded the first Dial Award as the 1979 national high school scholar-athlete of the year,” according to the website.

“Of course Walker was coveted by schools all around the country, but he eventually chose his local team, the Georgia Bulldogs. His arrival in Athens was momentous, as he produced one of the great freshman seasons in college football history, rushing for 1,616 yards and 15 touchdowns as the Bulldogs went 12-0 and won the national title. Walker tied for the best finish ever (at the time) by a freshman in the Heisman vote, placing third behind George Rogers and Hugh Green.”

Walker later played for the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.
