The Republican nomination for Georgia’s 6th Congressional District will be decided in a runoff election that is scheduled to occur on June 21.
Former chairman of the Georgia Ethics Commission and the Trump-endorsed candidate Jake Evans, who came in second in Tuesday’s primary, will face off against physician Rich McCormick in the runoff because no candidate achieved the 50 percent threshold required to ensure victory in a first election.
McCormick finished in first place with 43.1 percent of the vote, while Evans received 23 percent.
In a statement, the Evans campaign said, “With a tremendous grassroots network and support from the nation’s leading America First conservatives, Jake Evans’ campaign gained more ground than any other candidate in the 6th Congressional District Republican primary and catapulted into the runoff against Rich McCormick.”
“We proved last night that our campaign closed with more momentum than any other in this race,” Evans said. “I congratulate Rich on his strong finish and I thank all of the other candidates for their love of country and willingness to serve. I will work to earn their support and that of the thousands who voted for them.”
“This runoff is a choice between an unapologetic, unwavering conservative endorsed by President Trump, Newt Gingrich and Sean Hannity, and many others, and a candidate who tells each audience what it wants to hear – even going so liberal as to get the support of the House RINO caucus and taking cash from groups pushing gun control and abortion,” he said.
“We need a new-generation leader to stop the destructive Biden/Pelosi agenda, attack inflation, lower gas prices with domestic production and finish the wall to stop the flood of illegal immigration. I will deliver on these issues while never forgetting my first job is serving the people of Metro Atlanta and North Georgia,” the candidate said.
Evans’ bid has been endorsed by many prominent names that include former President Donald Trump, Newt Gingrich, Sean Hannity, Richard Grenell, Kash Patel, former National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien, Congressmen Darrell Issa (R-CA-50), Dan Bishop (R-NC-09), Turning Point USA Action, CPAC, the Atlanta Tea Party, the Citizens United Political Victory Fund, and FreedomWorks for America.
McCormick’s endorsements include U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, the Club for Growth, and the Mainstreet Partnership PAC.
