Georgia Democrats Cry Foul After Republicans Add Trans Athlete Ban to ‘Divisive Concept’ Bill

Georgia’s Democrats are crying foul after Republicans added language to a bill that will ban biological males from competing in female sports.

“In the final minutes of Sine Die, Georgia Republicans just squeezed in language that discriminates against trans kids to an already terrible bill, HB 1084. To target kids, to ban kids from playing sports, and to attack teachers at the same time. Appalling,” the Georgia House Democrats said.

Sine Die is the last day of the legislative session in the state. Any pending legislation at the end of Sine Die fails.

“If the athletic association determines that it is necessary and appropriate to prohibit students whose gender is male from participating in athletic events for students whose gender is female, then the athletic association may adopt a policy to that effect…” the updated text of the bill says.

CASE

HB 1084, which has now passed the State House, is essentially a mirror of SB 377, which prohibits schools in Georgia from teaching “divisive concepts.”

Those concepts include teaching that “one race or ethnicity is inherently superior to another race or ethnicity; The United States of America and the State of Georgia are fundamentally or systemically racist.”

The bill also specifically notes that schools and agencies can discuss the “divisive concepts,” but simply not in a way that states or suggests that one race is blamed or scapegoated.

Liberal extremists object to equality being taught in America’s public schools – instead opting to teach minority students that they are unequal to their white and/or straight peers – as states around the country begin to introduce and pass “divisive concept” legislation.

HB 1084 also bans teachers from sharing their personal political opinions with their students.

“‘Espousing personal political beliefs’ means an individual, while performing official duties as part of his or her employment or engagement with a school or local school system, intentionally encouraging or attempting to persuade or indoctrinate a student, school community member, or other school personnel to agree with or advocate for such individual’s personal beliefs concerning divisive concepts,” the bill says.
