A new poll, conducted by FOX 5 Atlanta/Insider Advantage, shows incumbent Governor Brian Kemp and GOP primary challenger David Perdue locked in a tie.
The survey was conducted shortly after Perdue launched his campaign against Kemp and former President Trump endorsed him.
“Great to see that David Perdue is running for Governor of Georgia. He is a Conservative fighter who isn’t afraid of the Radical Left, and is the only candidate in Georgia who can beat Stacey “The Hoax” Abrams in November. Brian Kemp has failed Georgia,” Trump said in a statement.
With both individuals tied at 34 percent, former Democratic state representative collected 10 percent, and candidate Kandiss Taylor gathered four percent of the vote.
“Kemp has been a very weak Governor—the liberals and RINOs have run all over him on Election Integrity, and more. Most importantly, he can’t win because the MAGA base—which is enormous—will never vote for him. We need strong leaders who will fight, and time is running out! David Perdue will eliminate the Income Tax, secure the Elections, defend the Second Amendment, support our great Farmers, get crime in Atlanta and other places under control, take care of our great Vets, and put parents back in charge of the schools,” Trump continued in his statement of support for Perdue.
Allies of Governor Kemp have blasted the decision from Perdue, who routinely supported Kemp in the past.
“Perdue’s only reason for running is to soothe his own bruised ego, because his campaign for U.S. Senate failed to inspire voters at the ballot box – twice,” Kemp’s director of Communications Cody Hall said. “Governor Kemp has a proven track record of fighting the radical left to put hardworking Georgians first, while Perdue is best known for ducking debates, padding his stock portfolio during a pandemic, and losing winnable races.”
