Georgia Revenue Commissioner Launches Congressional Campaign

David Curry, Georgia’s revenue commissioner, is launching a congressional bid in an effort to replace Representative Jody Hice (R-GA-10).

Curry announced his intent to enter the contest for the 10th Congressional District on Tuesday via a video posted to his Facebook page.

“I am running for Congress because It’s time to put Georgia and America first. I’ll always stand up for freedom in the face of those who call for radical changes to our institutions and pervade our community with left-wing propaganda. You can count on it,” Curry said in a subsequent tweet.

According to his campaign website, his campaign will focus on several issues facing Georgia and the country. For example, Curry has pledged to “never waver on my support of the Second Amendment” and “will always stand for freedom, individual rights, and the foundations of democracy.”

Curry was first elected to office in 2008 — becoming Henry County’s tax commissioner. From there, Curry began to be involved in various organizations throughout Georgia, including serving as the chairman of the State Board of Equalization.

Curry was appointed by Governor Brian Kemp in May 2019 to serve as the state’s revenue commissioner. “David’s wealth of experience and significant accomplishments make him an ideal fit as we reform state government and work to put Georgians first,” Kemp said in the announcement of Curry’s appointment.

Several other contenders have ignited campaigns for the open seat — including former U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, state Rep. Timothy Barr, and Mike Collins who was initially defeated by Rep. Hice.

Commissioner Curry’s interest in filling the seat for Georgia’s 10th Congressional District is sparked by current Representative Jody Hice opting to run for Secretary of State. Hice will enter a GOP primary challenge against the current, controversial Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger.

President Donald Trump has endorsed Hice in his primary efforts.
