Various Georgia sheriffs said at a press conference Tuesday that they don’t want voters to send Democrats to the U.S. Senate to boost Joe Biden’s agenda, especially since the party embraces ‘Defund the Police’ rhetoric.
These sheriffs spoke prior to Biden’s campaign event for U.S. Senate candidates Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, both of whom want to represent Georgia.
“All we have heard for months from the Democrat Party is ‘defund the police.’ I understand Joe Biden is talking the other way now not wanting to talk about ‘defunding the police’ until after this election,” said Gwinnett County Sheriff Butch Conway.
“But that doesn’t change anything. You’ve got Reverend Warnock who doesn’t respect police. He’s called us ‘thugs.’ I take that as a personal affront because I don’t know any thug police officers.”
Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman, meanwhile, said Ossoff and Warnock “don’t want to work hard to make Georgia better.”
“They don’t want to work hard to make our country better. They want to change our country. They want to change the way we live. They talk about defunding,” Chapman said.
“Ossoff and Warnock want to make it easier for the criminal element. They want to give them the upper-hand against what we do every day.”
Members of the Ossoff and Warnock campaigns did not return The Georgia Star News’ requests for comment Tuesday.
As reported, U.S. Sen. David Perdue (R-GA) and U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-GA), are on the January 5, 2021 ballot for the U.S. Senate against Ossoff and Warnock, respectively.
Conway said Tuesday that the January 5 vote “is the most important vote in my lifetime, and I have been voting since 1974.”
As reported this week, The Star News, quoting The New York Times, said Biden doesn’t want civil rights leaders to discuss defunding the police until after the Georgia U.S. Senate runoffs have concluded.
This, for fear that such rhetoric will scare off Georgia voters and prevent Democrats from controlling the U.S. Senate next year.
