Governor Brian Kemp holds a notable lead over Democrat Stacey Abrams, according to a new poll commissioned by the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).
The survey, which spoke to 1,197 likely Georgia voters, gave Kemp a 7-point edge over the Democrat in their rematch of the 2018 gubernatorial race.
According to the numbers, Kemp holds 52 percent of the support, compared to Abrams’ 45 percent. Furthermore, Abrams maintains lower favorability ratings. Fopercent of voters view her favorably, while 50 percent hold an unfavorable view.
A potential warning sign for Abrams is that President Joe Biden’s approval rating only sits at 34 percent in the state. A number that could drag down Democratic candidates.
Furthermore, the poll detailed that voters in the gubernatorial race hold inflation and the economy has their top two issues when deciding who to vote for.
Kemp has routinely hit Democrats over the historic inflation that has hit the state. As gas prices soared, Kemp enacted a temporary suspension of the state’s gas tax in order to ease the burden on consumers. Since the move, the state’s average gas price has remained below the national average.
Just this week, new numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed a continued rise in the cost of goods. According to the numbers, prices have increased 9.1 percent from one year ago.
“Democratic leadership is failing our country. Inflation soared to another 40-YEAR HIGH last month thanks to runaway spending and a disastrous energy policy causing pain at the pump,” tweeted Kemp. “Economic relief is on the ballot this November, and I’ll continue fighting for Georgia families.”

While the poll numbers favor Kemp, Abrams holds a major financial advantage. The Abrams campaign out-raised Kemp during the previous fundraising quarter due to many out-of-state donors.

Economic relief is on the ballot but yet Herschel Walker is supposedly not doing as well as Kemp.
