Herschel Walker Challenges Raphael Warnock to October Debate in Savannah

Georgia Republican Senate nominee Herschel Walker publicly challenged incumbent Senator Raphael Warnock on Tuesday to a debate in Savannah in October.

“Senator Warnock, I’m ready to debate. In fact, I just accepted a debate in your backyard, Savannah, where you’ve got home-field advantage, and it’s going to be broadcast statewide. I’m not a politician, I don’t look like a politician, I don’t sound like a politician, and frankly, I’m tired of politicians,” Walker said.

In the May 24th primary, both Walker and Warnock won their party’s senatorial nominations in landslides.

Walker won with 803,560 votes and 68 percent of the tally, while Warnock won a nearly unbelievable 96 percent of the tally for a total of 702,610 votes.

“I’m not going to obey the demands of the elite press and the liberal establishment to stand in an empty room for a debate that is supposed to be about the people. You see, I don’t answer to the press and I don’t answer to Raphael Warnock. I don’t answer to anyone but God and the people of Georgia,” the Trump-endorsed Walker said.

Walker had been accused by several media outlets of a lack of will when it came to a debate with Warnock.

“I’ve accepted a debate that is about voters. I’m leaving the media elite behind and taking my message right to the people so they can see the difference between the two of us. October the 14th in Savannah. Senator Warnock, I hope to see you there. Let’s do this,” Walker said on Twitter.

Walker revealed on Wednesday that Nexstar media group had reached out in an attempt to host the tentative debate.

“Senator Warnock Nexstar media group offered to host a debate for us in Savannah on October the 14th in front of the people. Don’t be scared. I know you rejected previous offers I’ve made, but please consider this one,” Walker tweeted.

With the date, time and place seemingly set, Warnock has yet to confirm whether the October contest will indeed occur.

“It’s being hosted by a respected third-party media group with multiple outlets in Georgia. It will be aired statewide on broadcast television in primetime so everybody will get a chance to watch it.” he said. 

“You know I’m in. Come on Raphael, let’s do this. October the 14th. I’ll be there. Will you?” Walker said.
