ELLIJAY, Georgia – Jake Evans, the 6th Congressional District candidate endorsed by Donald Trump, spoke with The Georgia Star News on Friday about his success fighting for election integrity in counties across the Peach State in the 2020 election cycle.
Evans stated, “[I’m the] only lawyer in Georgia history to overturn two elections in the same race, and then I contested the other one down in Long County. So, we found people that voted twice. We found people voting in a district they didn’t live in. We found people that were wrongly assigned a district. We found people who hadn’t signed absentee ballots. There’s fraud out there. It’s a thing.”
The congressional hopeful attributed his success to tireless diligence. “Well, a lot of it was detail orientation, going through droves and droves of documents. Persuasively presenting your case to the judge was another part of it,” he said; adding, “And I had a good expert, but we had the winning case. That’s what it came down to.”
Earlier this month, Evans appeared on Voice of Rural America, where he said, “I contested an election in 2020, down in Long County, Georgia. And I’ll tell you, it was unbelievable what I saw. I saw absentee ballot after absentee ballot which had no signature whatsoever. This case actually revealed over 1,000 folks voted twice, which I didn’t even know was possible.”
Evans brought up the documentary film 2000 Mules, by Dinesh D’souza that makes the case that the outcome of the 2020 general election was manipulated by widespread ballot harvesting.
He said, “You look at 2000 Mules. The reality is, it is so hard to get the documents to prove what we all knew was happening. Whenever the government has the ability, and unfortunately, DeKalb County, Fulton County – the government – is controlled by Democrats, many of which are activists. It is very hard to prove what you know is true,” Evans said. “Voter fraud is one of the hardest things to prove. You have to catch people red-handed because if someone’s willing to get on the stand and lie, there’s not much that you can do about it.
“So we have got … I have been 100 percent in favor of an audit. I think an audit should have went forward for us to see what really happened, for transparency to take place, because if nothing really happened, fine. So be it,” Evans said. “Then the people will know nothing really happened, but unfortunately we were never able to have an audit.”
Evans said he believes drop boxes should be disallowed altogether. “We have to make sure that what happened in 2022 does not happen again. Eradicate drop boxes at a minimum. Look at 2000 Mules. We need a camera on top of drop boxes, so we don’t have stuff like massive ballot harvesting happen again,” he said.
Likely drawing on his own experience at both at law firms Hall Booth Smith and Holland & Night, the Trump-endorsed candidate added that “we also have got, in my opinion, to provide immunity to lawyers.”
“There’s hardly any lawyers that could take these election cases in 2020. It was overwhelming,” Evans said. “And so, these are the unafraid things that I think we’ve got to have Republicans continue to make election integrity a front-line issue. That’s what I’ve done throughout my campaign. And we can’t let this just go away into the darkness. Otherwise, we’re going to have it happen again.”
A recent Star News Network-Kaplan Strategies poll released Monday found that 60 percent of Georgia’s Republican likely primary voters say elected officials, including Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger – who is running for re-election in 2022 – did not do enough to protect the 2020 general election from voter fraud. Only 39 percent of the sample population said that they trust Raffensperger to run an honest election.
Challenger Jody Hice is tied with the incumbent at 26 percent each, with the balance largely going to “undecided,” the poll found.
Secretary of State Raffensperger, meanwhile, is on the campaign trail looking to shore up support for his re-election bid. At a recent event, Raffensperger said, “Georgia’s elections are secure, accurate, and reliable. As your Secretary of State, I will always fight for the integrity of Georgia’s elections.”
