Left Claims Supreme Court Ruling Will ‘Harm’ Black Women, But Black Pro-Lifers Look to a New ‘Womb Equality’

As reactions abound in the aftermath of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision Friday to overturn Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, many on the left expressed their outrage by claiming the ruling will harm black and other minority women, but pro-life women of these communities wholeheartedly disagree and applaud the Court for “finally” righting their “wrongly decided law.”

“The Justice Department strongly disagrees with the Court’s decision,” said Attorney General Merrick Garland. “This decision deals a devastating blow to reproductive freedom in the United States. It will have an immediate and irreversible impact on the lives of people across the country. And it will be greatly disproportionate in its effect – with the greatest burdens felt by people of color and those of limited financial means.”

NAACP General Counsel Janette McCarthy Wallace called the move an “egregious assault on basic human rights,” reported the New York Post.

“Today’s Supreme Court decision marks a significant regression of our country,” she said. “As a legal professional, I am horrified by this decision. As a Black woman, I am outraged to my core.”

“There is no denying the fact that this is a direct attack on all women, and Black women stand to be disproportionately impacted by the court’s egregious assault on basic human rights,” Wallace added. “We must all stand up to have our voices heard in order to protect our nation from the further degradation of civil rights protections we have worked so hard to secure.”

CASE

Actress and leftist activist Alyssa Milano said the ruling will have “deadly consequences, with the harm falling hardest on people of color who already face disproportionate discrimination in our country and grapple with a severe maternal mortality crisis.”

“Banning abortion will disproportionately impact people of color, LGBTQ+ communities, people struggling to make ends meet, young people, and those living in rural areas,” Milano predicted.

But Day Gardner, president of the National Black Pro-Life Union gave thanks Friday “for the long-awaited decision of the Supreme Court to finally right their wrongly decided law.”

Gardner compared abortion to slavery.

“Overturning Roe was every bit as important as it was to rid our beautiful country of the institution of slavery,” Gardner said. “The engine of the underground railroad — will continue to roar until the day we see all abortion as a terrible thing of our historical past. If we stand united against this horrific practice … we shall overcome this, too!”

Evangelist Alveda King, niece of Martin Luther King, Jr., celebrated the ruling, and referred to abortion as “a hate crime.”

Roe is no more! The Supreme Court justices’ reversal of Roe v Wade with the critical Dobbs decision today is a victory for civil rights for the unborn. Sending the discussion of life vs abortion back to the states will help “we the people” on the state level grow to ensure that every unborn baby has the civil right to LIFE. Human dignity begins in the womb!

“Today the new civil rights struggle of our time is for ‘womb equality’ and the right to life for the unborn children who are aborted each year,” King said. “This premise asserts that while we are not colorblind, we see and value the gifts of ethnic diversity. We see every human, born and pre-born, as created in the image and likeness of GOD. All pre-born children should first be given the chance to be born and live flourishing human lives.”

“[A]s long as a baby can be legally killed before birth, there is no such thing as civil rights,” the evangelist continued. “Abortion is a hate crime. As the individual ethnic groups and social justice communities fight for ‘hate crime’ legislation, we must stop the violence and killing of our weakest; the preborn.”

King urged that abortion be considered “a weapon of mass destruction.”

“A scalpel, shot or pill can be as deadly as a gun,” she asserted. “At last count Roe v Wade has sanctioned the legal killing of more than 63 million innocent children in America.”

But King went further in blasting the hypocrisy of those who claim to be concerned about the “harms” that await black women due to the overturning of Roe by shining a light on the numbers of black babies who are aborted daily.

“[T]hose who so often claim to act in defense of ‘civil rights’ for minority communities remain conspicuously silent about the disparate effect abortion has on the Black community,” she wrote. “For example, about 663 Black babies are aborted every single day, totaling over 240,000 black babies each year. This is why any true discussion about civil rights in America today must center around abortion.”

The evangelist asserted:

Nothing has wreaked havoc on the Black community and destroyed Black lives more than the abortion industry. Of course racism, transgender surgery for children, human trafficking, poverty and other ills, and the racist CRT agenda are often cited; and must be addressed. Yet all too often abortion is not included in the list of crimes against humanity.

“Abortion is an injustice against the civil rights of the least among us,” King said. “Abortion is systemic racism. A baby in the womb, no matter the skin color, is a child to be protected rather than a legal “choice” to be made. Cloaking the killing of innocent babies in the guise of women’s rights and reproductive justice does a disservice to the babies, their biological parents, to the human race; and to God.”

“How can the Dream survive if we murder our children?” she asked.

Bienvenido, an organization of Hispanic Americans that seeks to “uplift” their communities through “classic American values,” said Friday it was joining the “millions of Americans – including the majority of Hispanics who value human life — in celebrating the Supreme Court’s 6-3 ruling overturning ‘Roe’ and ‘Casey.’”

Bienvenido added:

The Court’s decision is correct as both a legal and a moral matter. It was always a lie that the Constitution guaranteed the right to kill unborn children and this Court has just exposed this lie for the shameful farce that it always has been. Future generations will one day look back in horror at our society’s indifference toward the 60 million unborn children who suffered as they were dismembered in their mothers’ wombs. As we commemorate this historic decision, let us remember these children who were denied the right to live, pray for forgiveness, and give thanks to God.

“We have a long way to go, but this ruling is an important step toward justice for all,” Bienvenido said.
