State legislators continue to push for Governor Brian Kemp or the General Assembly to call a special legislative session before the January runoff election.
State Senators Brandon Beach (R-GA-Alpharetta), Greg Dolezal (R-GA-Cumming), William Ligon (R-GA-Brunswick), and Burt Jones (R-GA-Jackson) submitted a letter to Kemp on Tuesday.
“We now urge the General Assembly or Governor to call a Special Session so that we can address structural issues with our voting system before the January runoff,” stated the letter. “The call for a Special Session should include the presenting of any evidence of voter fraud from the Government Oversight Committee hearings as well as any new evidence that comes to light to the full legislative body.”
The letter also asked that the special session would implement a photo ID requirement for absentee voting, and additional procedural changes to ensure that mass amounts of votes aren’t overlooked.
Legislators have petitioned for a special session ahead of the runoff election for several weeks.
If a special session were to occur, the legislators would likely address the appointed presidential electors and the implementation of laws limiting voter fraud in the upcoming general election runoff.
Included in the list of electors down the Democratic ticket is Stacey Abrams, the previous Georgia House of Representatives Minority Leader and failed 2018 gubernatorial candidate who has been credited by her party for increasing the state’s Democratic voter turnout.
Both Republican National Committeewoman for Georgia Ginger Howard and Representative Vernon Jones (D-GA-DeKalb County) informed The Georgia Star News that there has been no further response on holding a special session.
The day after Raffensperger and Kemp certified the election results, voters and activists protested at the State Capitol in Atlanta. Protestors gathered to decry the election as “stolen” and to demand that Kemp call a special session.
President Donald Trump shared news of the rally, reiterating previous claims that, fraud aside, he won the election by an insurmountable margin.
“…The pouring in is undeniable. Many more votes than needed. This was a LANDSLIDE!”
Meanwhile in Canton, another rally gathered to listen to Vice President Mike Pence stump for incumbent Republican Senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue. Those attendees, too, called for their elected officials to “stop the steal.”
Kemp hasn’t issued any further statements indicating that he will call a special session.
