Senator JD Vance Explains How Ukraine Aid Package is a ‘Future Impeachment Trap’ for Trump

Sen JD Vance (R-OH)

Ohio U.S. Senator JD Vance (R-OH) joined Monday’s edition of Steve Bannon’s War Room to discuss the supplemental funding package currently being debated in the Senate and how it could be used as a tool to impeach former President Donald Trump if he were to be elected in November.

The $95.34 billion aid package for Ukraine, Taiwan, and Israel, expected to pass the U.S. Senate, would mandate funding through 2026, which Vance says would give an avenue for Democrats to impeach Trump, if he were to be sworn in as president in January of 2025.

“In the Ukraine First funding bill, there is funding that is mandatory through 2026,” Vance explained. “If Trump wins, as I hope he will, he’s going to be President in January of 2025.”

“So what happens if Donald Trump decides to force Ukraine to go to the negotiating table? What if he releases some of the money but not all of the money? What if he decides to do what a president has to do, which is conduct diplomacy? Steve, you heard it here first. They will impeach him under this legislation that may very well pass tonight out of the United States Senate. I cannot repeat this enough, The Washington Post has already reported that the purpose of the legislation is to control Donald Trump,” Vance added.

Vance added that the Democrats are knowingly creating a “dynamic” to impeach the potential former president, arguing that Republican senators need to “kill” the legislation to avoid such a scenario.

“So what they’re trying to do is create a dynamic where if Trump follows his own campaign promises, Steve, they’re going to say it’s illegal and we have to impeach you. It’s maybe reason number one why we’ve got to kill this legislation. We cannot pass a law now that ties Trump’s hands in 2026 and gives Democrats an excuse to impeach him. But that’s what way too many Republicans are talking about doing,” Vance said.

“We cannot let these guys, in the interest of Ukraine, destroy our nominee, create a constant civil war within the Republican Party, depress our voters, all so that you guys can get $61 billion for Ukraine,” Vance added.

On Monday, Vance echoed his argument to each of his Republican colleagues in Congress by sending out a memo, which said, “The supplemental represents an attempt by the foreign policy blob/deep state to stop President Trump from pursuing his desired policy, and if he does so anyways, to provide grounds to impeach him and undermine his administration.”

“All Republicans should oppose its passage,” the memo added.
