Two Cobb County Sheriff’s Deputies were killed in the line of duty Thursday night while attempting to serve a warrant, that law enforcement agency said.
“Two deputies died tonight in the line of duty while serving a warrant,” the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) said Thursday night. “SWAT and FAST teams are at the scene. The suspect is barricaded. We will release additional information, including the names of the fallen deputies, as it becomes available.”

The suspects in the shooting were identified as Christopher Cook and Christopher Golden, who were scheduled to make their first court appearances Friday at 4 p.m., according to CCSO.
The men were reportedly taken into custody at around 12:15 a.m. Friday morning by SWAT officers.
The names of the deputies who were killed in the line of duty have not been released.
“What I can tell you in this moment is this — in plain terms it is simple, my two deputies were ambushed this evening and killed,” said Sheriff Craig Owens Thursday night. “The two suspects we believe are the perpetrators of this crime are currently in custody and are being held at the Cobb County Police Department for questioning.”
WSB-TV reports that the warrants were being served against Cook for three felony counts of theft by receiving, and three counts of theft by deception.
Golden has reportedly been booked on two counts of aggravated assault against an officer and two charges of felony murder. It is not clear whether additional charges have been brought against Cook stemming from the deaths of the police officers.
Gov. Brian Kemp (R) expressed his condolences on Twitter.
“Marty, the girls, & I were deeply saddened to learn of the killing of these two deputies,” he said. “Men & women like them bravely serve our communities every day, & we owe them a great debt of gratitude. Please join us in praying for their families & fellow law enforcement officers.”
