YSL Defendant Stabbed in Fulton County Jail as D.A. Fani Willis Seeks to Conclude Trial

One of the remaining defendants in the Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ racketeering trial of musical artists associated with Young Slime Life (YSL) and Young Thug was reportedly stabbed at the Fulton County Jail on Sunday as the district attorney seeks to conclude the trial.

Young Slime Life co-defendant Deamonte Kendirck was stabbed at the Fulton County Jail by another inmate, WABE reported his attorney revealed Monday after the rapper, who performs using the stage name Yak Gotti, appeared in court with multiple staples in his head on Monday.

His attorney, Doug Weinstein, reportedly said in a press conference outside of the courthouse that his client was “doing really well,” but said, “It’s a shame that anyone that’s held in our jails have to go through that.”

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office told Atlanta News First on Monday that it was actively investigating the stabbing and planned to file charges related to the incident after it determines the aggressor.

Willis indicted Kendrick (pictured above) and other members of the YSL musical group, including its founder Jeffrey Lamar Williams, who performs using the stage name Young Thug, using the same Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act she applied to President-elect Donald Trump and those who helped him contest the 2020 election results.

The trial has similarly gone awry for Willis’ team, with one judge threatening to force prosecutors in her office to work weekends, only for that judge to be later removed from the case due to allegedly improper communications with prosecutors.

Willis’ case against YSL members garnered Trump’s attention on the campaign trail in August, when the president-elect declared Williams was being treated “very unfairly” after being questioned about the prosecution during an appearance with internet streamer Adin Ross.

“I heard about him, so I have heard he is being treated very unfair by [Willis],” Trump told the streamer. “I would tell her, she’s got to treat these patriots that are being all, terrible, all going after him.”

Trump added, “I heard it from other people that he’s being treated unfairly. So, he’s got to be treated fairly.”

The Fulton County Jail where Kendrick was stabbed is the same facility where Trump was required to appear and have his mugshot captured for Willis’ case against him.

It has since been the subject of state and federal investigations, with the Biden-Harris Department of Justice recently releasing a report calling the conditions “inhumane” and hazardous.

Some have assigned blame to Willis, citing the backlog of around 40,000 cases in Fulton County, but Willis previously denied any role in the crisis.

The stabbing occurred as the YSL trial comes toward a close, with just two of the original 28 defendants remaining. Last month, Williams agreed to a no-contest plea that required him to refrain from gang associations and avoid Atlanta for 10 years.
