Army Combat Veteran Brian Mast Endorses Herschel Walker

Representative Brian Mast (R-FL-18) endorsed GOP Senate nominee Herschel Walker in a statement released on Wednesday.

“For many years, Herschel Walker has worked to support men and women in the military, and I have confidence he will continue to do so in the U.S. Senate. He has my full endorsement, “the Army combat veteran said.

Veterans affairs and law enforcement are two key issues of the Walker campaign.

“Our veterans are talking, telling us how we can help them, but Joe Biden and Raphael Warnock aren’t listening. After everything they’ve given for our freedom, at the very least, they need an advocate in the U.S. Senate. My heart is with them, and I will always fight for them,” Team Herschel said in a Wednesday statement.

Mast served in the U.S. Army for over 12 years, and his medals include The Bronze Star Medal, The Army Commendation Medal for Valor, The Purple Heart Medal, and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal.

“It’s an honor to have your endorsement, @BrianMastFl! After years of traveling to military bases around the world, I know heroes like YOU are the reason American is the greatest country in the world. When I’m in the U.S. Senate, veterans like you will always have my full support!” Team Herschel said.

Mast worked as a bomb disposal expert at Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) in Afghanistan, and the final improvised explosive device (IED) he found resulted in the loss of both legs.

“Our veterans are true heroes and have sacrificed everything for us. Team Herschel will always back our great veterans!” Walker said.

Republican general election nominee, Mark Gonsalves (GA-07), spoke with The Georgia Star News on Friday about Walker’s endorsement and his respect for military veterans.

“I think that that’s a wonderful, wonderful endorsement for Herschel to receive and hearing it, I think of the brave men and women who have fought for this country. I think of those that paid the ultimate devotion to our country fighting for the freedoms we have,” Gonsalves said.

Gonsalves spoke about the sacrifices that veterans like Congressman Mast, a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, have made for the United States.

“Whenever I encounter a veteran, particularly a veteran that has been wounded to the degree that this man has been, I’m listening to him,” he said.

“It’s very easy to sit back in the comfort of your own home and turn on the news, but when you’re in harm’s way and you’re fighting to protect and preserve our uniquely American freedoms, I think every American should honor that man. The fact that he honored Herschel with his endorsement, I take that as a very big positive,” Gonsalves added.
