Congressional Hopefuls Tyler Harper and Chris West Host Agriculture Roundtable in Dawson

Republican agricultural commissioner nominee Tyler Harper and GOP nominee Chris West (R-GA-02) hosted an agricultural roundtable in Dawson on Wednesday.

“Great time in Dawson today meeting with [agricultural] leaders supporting my friend Tyler Harper for Agriculture Commissioner. Southwest Georgia is ready to elect strong leaders who will fight for our state’s #1 industry!” West said on Wednesday.

Agricultural industry leaders and former Georgia Senator Kelly Loeffler were also present at the event.

“Georgia’s next Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper hosting a roundtable in Dawson today joined by Kelly Loeffler, Chris West and industry leaders discussing the challenges and opportunities facing Georgia’s #1 industry,” campaign advisor Stephen Lawson said.

Stephen Lawson, senior communications advisor to Tyler Harper’s campaign for agricultural commissioner, spoke with The Georgia Star News about the roundtable.

“I thought it was a huge success outside of Albany on Wednesday,” Lawson said.

The communication advisor stated that industry leaders have expressed concern about government overextension at the federal level.

“You had dozens of industry leaders from across Southwest Georgia come out to voice their support for Tyler to be the next agricultural commissioner, but to also share some concerns that they are facing in terms of rising input costs, labor shortages, and this massive overreach by the federal government that is really crippling so many businesses,” he said.

Harper’s communication advisor stated that energy independence and supply chains are part of the campaign’s priorities.

“Whether it’s lowering input costs, shifting our supply chains back to the United States so we can produce more of our own food and our fiber, working to ensure we regain energy independence in this country, or investing in the next generation of agriculture so that it can continue to thrive,” Lawson said to The Georgia Star News. “It was a great turnout, a great day, and I think it just speaks volumes to Tyler’s expertise, understanding, and background as he works to be the next AG commissioner.”

A local farmer was in attendance at the Dawson-based roundtable discussion.

“We know the votes are in Atlanta, but don’t forget rural Georgia,” Calhoun County farmer Jimmy Webb said.

Lawson asserted that Harper is the hardest working politico in the Peach State at the moment.

“We’re excited. We’ve got a ton of momentum out on the campaign trail. I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a candidate who is working harder than Tyler Harper right now, crisscrossing the state. We’re excited, we’ve got a lot of momentum, and we’re looking forward to a big win in November,” Lawson said.
