GA-10 Republican Candidate Taking Heat from Far Left over Transgender Military Ban Position

Mitchell Swan, a retired military colonel and candidate in the Republican primary for Georgia’s 10th Congressional District, is taking heat from the far Left because he wants to reinstate former President Donald Trump’s 2017 transgender military ban.

Media Matters, and LGBTQ Nation are among the far-left outlets that are criticizing Swan’s position.

LGBTQ Nation wrote, “It’s no coincidence that Swan is bringing up a 5-year-old issue. He’s just one of many Republicans using transphobia to help propel their election campaigns. He’s also one of many conservatives claiming that President Joe Biden and the U.S. military are appearing ‘weak’ on the world stage for bowing to left-wing ‘wokeism.'”

In response to its criticism, Swan doubled down, tweeting: “We can let them continue to attack us for our conservative values, or we can choose to stand for the Christian principles that made this country great. I choose to stand and fight. I hope you will join me.”

Swan spoke with The Georgia Star News about the attacks he has been getting over his position on the transgender military ban.

Swan said, “Hateful LGBTQ+ groups have attacked conservative military members and veterans for years , especially those with strong Christian values. They take advantage of our good nature and leverage our inability to push back due to our military ethos, command structure, and adherence to orders.”

He also blasted the diversity training that goes on at the Department of Defense, stating, “Compulsory DOD ‘Diversity and Inclusion Training’ has become a tool of LGBTQ supporters to normalize sodomy, sinful behavior, and transgender lifestyles throughout our Armed Forces, while also waging a culture war on those traditional Christian family values many service members were raised upon. This tears at the moral fabric and cohesion of our military forces. Furthermore, it erodes combat readiness and desecrates over 200 years of American military culture.”

Swan first advocated his position on the transgender military ban in a statement to Fox News, where he said that defending a nation is far more important than social experimentation.

“A strong military is essential to preventing escalating situations like Ukraine and Afghanistan.” he said. “Allowing transgender individuals to serve sends a message to our adversaries that we are more focused on social experimentation than on the defense of our nation.”

Swan is running in Georgia’s 10th Congressional District Republican primary. There are over 10 candidates in the race, including former member of the Georgia House of Representatives Vernon Jones, who has been endorsed by Trump.

The Republican primary is scheduled to occur on May 24.
