Georgia Representative’s ‘Gender-Affirming Care’ Bill on Minors Illegal Included in Republican Committee’s FY 2024 Budget Proposal

Georgia U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA-14) announced this week that her Protect Children’s Innocence Act was included in the Republican Study Committee’s (RSC) FY 2024 Budget Proposal.

Greene’s bill would make performing “gender-affirming care” on minors illegal, including puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and sex-change surgeries.

“Children who are not allowed to drive, vote, or see an R-rated movie should not be allowed to make life-altering decisions that will forever alter their precious bodies,” Greene said.

If enacted, Greene’s legislation would specifically:

  • Charge any person who knowingly performed gender-affirming care on a minor with a Class C Felony (10 to 25 years in prison or maximum $250,000 fine);
  • Prohibit all taxpayer-funded gender-affirming care;
  • Prohibit institutions of higher education from providing instruction on gender-affirming care; and
  • Deem aliens who have performed gender-affirming care on a minor as ineligible to receive visas or be admitted to the United States.

The RSC’s FY 2024 budget balances in seven years, cuts spending by $16.3 Trillion over 10 years, and reduces taxes by $5.1 Trillion over 10 years, according to projections released by the committee. The budget is made up of over 220 individual bills and initiatives.

In a statement, CEO of Family Policy Alliance Craig DeRoche voiced his support of the budget and commended, in particular, its work to “fight against the radical gender policies of the Biden Administration.”

“The House Republican Study Committee has once again shown their strong commitment to defend the unborn and parental rights and fight against the radical gender policies of the Biden Administration. American families are often left struggling to find who will put their priorities first in government spending. Family Policy Alliance thanks Chairman Kevin Hern and members of the RSC for their work in crafting a budget that puts those American families first,” DeRoche stated.
