Commentary: The Truth Behind George Santos’ Lies

by Matthew Boose

The uproar over George Santos and his crude fabrications has given official Washington an opportunity to do what it does best: moralize and deflect. It is all a little amusing to watch. Who are these scoundrels to hold forth on truth and transparency? Are we meant to be astonished that a politician lied to secure public office? The freshman congressman from New York is distinguished only by the chutzpah of his act. His dishonesty, in an ironic way, is more truthful than the posturing of the preening hypocrites denouncing him.

When Santos called himself the “embodiment of the American dream,” he was only half-lying. Santos very much represents the American dream to the charlatans and ravenous social climbers who lord it over us. No rational person believes that Karine Jean-Pierre has any kind of merit. Her talent consists in being a black lesbian who is willing to trumpet invidious falsehoods with smug contempt. This is also the secret of Joe Biden’s surprising longevity: he is a man utterly lacking in shame, an empty vessel for his patrons.

Is George Santos really more egregious than a prolific liar like Biden? Or the thoroughly artificial Pete Buttigieg, whose fame rests on being a homosexual and speaking in cerebral platitudes? What about the vacuous, rambling, racially ambiguous Kamala Harris, who plagiarized Martin Luther King (imitation being the sincerest form of flattery), or Elizabeth Warren, a rich liberal white lady who has spent her entire life pretending to be a Cherokee?

Are Santos’ lies more consequential than the absurd “public health” dogmas that grandiose, self-appointed tyrants like Anthony Fauci used to divide and rule in the name of “science”? Have his lies caused more harm than the racialist poison being peddled by poseur court intellectuals who crowd the halls of power?

Consider some of the brazen, enormously consequential lies that the ears of the public have been battered with in just the past two years: ivermectin is “horse paste.” The COVID vaccine is “safe and effective,” and those who do not take it are dangerous. The 2020 election was “free and fair.” The Hunter Biden laptop is “Russian disinformation.” ’The southern border is “secure.” The COVID lab leak theory is a “conspiracy theory.” The January 6 “insurrection” was an attack on “our democracy” as grave as September 11 and Pearl Harbor. The George Floyd riots were “mostly peaceful.” America is not in a recession.

The pious frauds who peddled these massive lies have all found their reward in the America liberal progressives have built. Why should George Santos be singled out for censure? His only sin is playing the game with more, although not much more, audacity than others who have succeeded in it. He is a mirror, reflecting the grotesque corruption of an oligarchy that calls itself Our Democracy™, in which a clever few clamber to the top by demonstrating “diversity” and obsequious loyalty to the ruling party rather than competence and character.

The articles of faith of the new order are almost designed to empty one of anything resembling integrity and self-respect: men can become women, and vice versa; sterilizing children is “health care”; all socioeconomic disparities are because of evil, racist whites, who are secretly conspiring to kill young black men and beat up Asian grandmas in New York City; and on and on. Contemporary America is decadent and built on toxic orthodoxies and misdirections that cannot sustain a moment’s reflection, but few dare contradict the charade lest they lose respectability and become targets of the system.

In this blizzard of demoralizing nonsense, the lies of a George Santos are but a snowflake.
